Class Summaries Coming Soon

I had a thought this morning in the shower (too much info?) that it might be helpful both for my records and for my students if I used this blog to document the material we cover in each section of my class.  If I assigned a category to each class and labeled the lecture number, I’d be able to refer back to what we did in any particular class, plus I’d force myself to recall any “commitments” I made such as having a review ready by the next class or preparing an answer to a question that I didn’t have an off the cuff answer for.  I tend to get sidetracked when I introduce either some Philosophy of Mathematics or Education into my courses and especially the history of the particular theory we are discussing.  I like to provide motivation and context to the topics we cover in class.  Questions often arise that I plan to do a quick little bit of research.  I have a tendency to forget all about that.

At any rate, I have every intention of giving a quick, generally short, blurb about the topics covered in each class.

Currently, I am teaching 4 classes: Calculus IV, Linear Algebra, Intermediate Analysis and an Honors Seminar on Faith and Science.  All 4 are very interesting and fun classes.  This is the first semester in years that I am not teaching a freshman algebra course and its nice to not have to change gears as much.  Switching from Factoring Polynomials to Proving the Intermediate Value Theorem tended to strip some the gears in my noggin.

This whole idea may or may not be successful. It could fail by me not keeping up with my courses. It could fail because it accomplishes none of what I intended it to. It could fail by running off my regulars who visit this site. I’ll judge it a success if it fails to fail in any of these three ways.
